We returned to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa this past Wednesday night. It has been our "home away from home" on Wednesdays since about 1988. We've seen many exciting races over those years...many of them in the stock car class. Last night was deja vu of some of those stock car finishes from the past as three cars put on quite the show for the fans.
The B modified feature was first on the docket for the evening. On the start of the race, Jason McDaniel would shoot to the lead from starting in third position. Young Cayden Carter settled into the second slot. Several yellow flags would slow the action; one of which removed the 02 of Andrew Schroeder from the contest with what appeared to be a flat tire. When the checkered flag flew, it was Jason McDaniel taking the win...his 8th of the year over all..., Cayden Carter held the runner-up position, third went to Tyler Groenendyke, the point leader, fourth to Mike Shelton, and fifth to Bobby Greene.
We have always been big fans of the stock car class. Perhaps it is because those were the type of car we grew up watching. Last night, there were three cars running up front that put on a show that was reminiscent of some of the finishes at the big half-mile track from days gone by. We recall many nights when there would be three cars coming for the finish line, three-wide. Last night, it was much the same. The Flying Dutchman, Mike VanGenderen leaped to the lead at the drop of the green. Point leader, Matt Greiner made his way quickly up to second and last week's winner, the 20Dub of Shane Weller came from eighth to the third position. With VanGenderen still holding the lead, those three cars would race tightly, circuit after circuit, giving the audience quite the show. Weller made a flying move to get around VanGenderen, only to slide a bit high in turn four and the 57V regained the lead. The three cars were still running very close as the white flag flew and you knew it was going to be a close one at the finish. Matt Greiner would power his way around VanGenderen on that last lap to go home with the win as the three cars crossed the line in a tight group. VanGenderen would have to settle for that runner-up spot tonight, Shane Weller took third, fourth went to Brian Mitrisin who was trying his best to reel in those top three cars, and fifth went to Zack VanderBeek. We are putting it in the book for another exciting finish at the Southern Iowa Speedway.
The USRA hobby stocks took to the track next for their A main. Bobby Greene put his 32T out front early but Kris Walker was wanting none of that as he would then take over the lead. Most of the racing was around the top as the 85 of Jason McDaniel found out. He was fighting hard in fourth position and decided to dip low to see if he could find anything in a lower groove. It was not to be found and he fell back several positions. At the finish line, it would be Kris Walker for the win, Greene maintained second position, third went to Danny Thrasher, fourth to Nathan Wood, fifth to Justin Hook and McDaniel crossed in sixth spot. In Victory Lane, announcer Tony Paris talked with Walker who had just got his 100th career win this past weekend and making this his 101st.
Zack VanderBeek started on the pole of the USRA A modified feature and never looked back from there. He would put distance between him and the field though the 17P of Brad Pinkerton was showing his skills as he tried in vane to catch VanderBeek. VanderBeek took the win, Pinkerton was second, Colt Mather came home in third, fourth went to Steve Blattler and fifth to Indianola's Josh Truman.
Thanks to announcer Tony Paris for the shout out to us and the Positively Racing website. Please check out the blogs of the other members as they travel to various races around the area. Our plans are to be attending the big Nationwide Series race this coming Saturday at the Iowa Speedway. For those of you who check for our results from the Boone Speedway on Saturdays, we suggest that you check http://www.raceboone/ as the results should be up on their site later on.
Next Wednesday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway, the USMTS will come to town. Michael Waltrip and Kenny Wallace are scheduled to be in attendance. It was announced earlier in the night, that Bobby Labonte will not be able to make it due to another commitment. Make plans to attend this show. The USMTS drivers always put on a great show.
Full results of Wednesday's races are listed below. Happy racing!

Jay Noteboom wins Harris Clash
The old saying that, "the third time is the charm" seemed to hold true as this past Tuesday night, the Harris Clash was able to be held. There were 78 cars on hand to try their luck at taking home the trophy. It was unfortunate that weather had played a hand in the return of many of the 120 original entries, but it was certainly a stellar field that did compete. There were eight heat races which qualified the top two, and 4 B-Mains which qualified the top three, making for a 28 car starting field for the A-Main.
Some drivers had their night end early. The 92 of Jeff Stephens was leading heat two, when on the white flag lap, he would go up in smoke. Earlier in the heat, Kelly Shryock would lose his motor. Both drivers were done for the night. It was noted that all heats were run without one caution.
After the eight winners of the heat redrew, as did all of the second place finishers, it was Josh Gilman pulling out the #1 pill to start on the pole along side Billy Davis, Jr. On lap two, with Jay Noteboom leading from starting third, two separate incidents in turns one and two, would leave only 21 cars able to restart the contest. When racing resumed, it would be Jay Noteboom and Jeremy Mills leading the field. Those two would pester each other for most of the race. Mills would take the lead for a few laps, but Noteboom regained the point. Meanwhile, the car to be watching was the 7C of Nate Caruth. He was making tremendous headway as he charged into third position from starting far back in the starting field. Also coming through traffic from starting in the 16th position, was the 5 of Todd Shute as he found himself in seventh position with about 10 laps to go. Right behind him was the 7 of Al Hejna who had been in the pits after the early skirmish, tagged the field and made an amazing charge through traffic.
With six laps to go, Caruth had been able to pass Mills and as the laps wound down, he was catching leader Noteboom. Laps would run out for Caruth however, as Jay Noteboom would take the win. Young Nate Caruth would have to be content with the runner-up spot, third was Jeremy Mills, Michael Long kept his car toward the front the whole evening, to take fourth, Todd Shute was fifth and Hejna finished in sixth.
Our thanks and appreciation goes out to Bob Harris for once again putting this show on for the fans and drivers. It is one that we always call a "must see" in our book.
More complete results can be found at http://www.imca.com/ as well as http://www.knoxvilleraceway.com/. The season is winding down, but there are still many weekly track races as well as specials in our area. Try and get out to a race near you. Happy racing!

Davis, Bushore, Gifford, Book and Huggins score wins at the Boone Speedway
There were repeat winners as well as a first time ever winner on this past Saturday night at the Boone Speedway. It was pleasant temperatures for a late July race and a nice crowd was throughly entertained by the racing action. By my count there were 138 cars checked in for the night.
The Dwarf/Mod Lite cars were first on tap for their feature after the intermission/farming session. The bright yellow #X50 of Joel Huggins began the race from his outside pole position and would go home to take the checkered flag for the first time this year at Boone. He has been very successful as of late as he took feature wins at the Marshalltown Speedway the previous two races. He would lead the race flag to flag as Eric Henrickson chased him for most of the race and though he did cut the distance, he was not able to overtake him. Hendrickson would have to settle for that runner-up position. Coming from 10th position to finish third, was the familiar #5 of Troy Hudson, fourth went to Josh May and fifth went to Randy Bryan.
The SportMods whittled their starting field to 24 via a B Main which was won by Rick Ringgenberg. The start of the feature began with a tangle of cars in turn two. This would result in the point leader, Scott Davis being towed away as the rearend dangled. When action got underway, it was Mike Pruitt leading the pack but Joel Bushore was cutting the distance quickly between the two. Bushore would eventually make the pass and Pruitt would fall back a couple of positions. Meanwhile, Matthew Meinecke and visiting Wisconsin driver, Troy Jerevetz in his 01 car made their way to the front of the pack. As the checkers flew, Joel Bushore would win for the second time this year at Boone, Jerovetz had a good run to take second as he got by third place finisher Matthew Meinecke, Pruitt finished fourth and Kellogg, Iowa driver Zach Rawlins came home in fifth.
The IMCA modified feature was once again an exciting race. Missing in action, was the pole-sitter, Nate Caruth. He had finished his heat race in 4th position, but for some reason, did not make the starting call. This would move Denny Pittman to the point position as he sat along side the 23 of JJ Scott. Scott and Pittman would lead the charge for several circuits until Billy Davis, Jr. was able to pass Pittman to take over the second position. Pittman and Davis would swap positions back and forth as Scott kept the lead. A fast moving #5 of Todd Shute was also making up ground to get involved in the mix of the top four. As the white flag flew, there was contact between front runner Scott and Davis as they entered turn one. This resulted in Scott coming to a stop on the track and the race ending under the yellow/checkered. Davis was awarded the win, Shute took second, Pittman was third, Scott Baker ran a good race to take fourth, and fifth was Adam Larson who came from well back in the starting field.
A full field of 24 cars checked in for the IMCA stock cars. Unable to start due to an incident in their heat race, was the 7 car of Dustin Graham and the 24K of Kevin Shaw. There were three #22 cars running up front early with Josh Brauckman in the 22X leading, local Boone driver Ryan Rose to seperate them, and then the 22 of Wayne Gifford with 22SX of Lonnie Hodges behind Gifford. The 35 of Donavon Smith got himself into contention and was running third when he was involved in a tight racing incident low in turn two. He would make contact with the lightpole resulting in a flat tire and ending his night. At halfway, Gifford was in charge with Rose in tow. Hodges was running third and coming from 10th to take over fourth, was Bryan Trogdon. When the checkers flew, it was Wayne Gifford taking the win, Ryan Rose took second, Bryan Trogdon in third, fourth went to Lonnie Hodges, and coming from starting twelveth to take fifth, was point leader Trent Murphy.
The hobby stocks would run two B features tonight. The first consy was won by Shawn Wirtz and the second by Scott Lograsso. Leading the feature early was veteran driver 68 year old, Larry Embrey. He was being chased by 17 year old Dylan Book. Book overtook Embrey for the lead and soon Richard Yaw II would also get by Embrey. Book had a feature win slip away from him earlier in the season as he led late and I am sure his heart was pounding as the laps wore down. This time, it did not slip away from him as he took his first ever win. Yaw followed him across the finish line for second, Larry Embrey hung on for third, point leader Michael Murphy was fourth, and Chris Hupp rounded out the top five. Congratulations to Book on his first win.
There were two claims after the feature, as Alan VanGorp claimed Yaw and the 46J of Jesse Hopkins claimed Dylan Book.
Next Saturday night at the Boone Speedway will be the fun "cardboard racers". Kids are encouraged to make a box racer of their favorite driver. Those drivers will be able to don the cardboard cars as they foot race down the frontstretch to the checkers next week. Always a fun time for kids, fans, and drivers alike. All of the regular classes will be racing as well.

Marshalltown does not give in to Mother Nature.
It was a hot Friday night as we arrived at the Marshalltown Speedway. The sky to the east was dark as radar showed heavy rain in that area. However, the sky to the west seemed good and not much thought was given to any question of weather concerns for the night. It was Hogeland Auto Plaza "Kid's Night" with free give aways for the kids and "Tow Mater" on hand. "Tow Mater" is a great replica of the tow truck featured in the movie "Cars" from a few years back.
The evening began as usual with Dwarf/Mod Lite, SportMod, and IMCA stock car heats. It was one of those nights, when your eyes kept wandering to the sky to the west, and out of no where, it got blacker and blacker. As the final heat of stock cars completed their contest, and the first modified feature took to the track, here came the raindrops. With a few flashes of lightning and the raindrops quickening, racing was halted and many fans headed for shelter. The rain did come to an end and the wind shifted to the north and temps dropped considerably. With great effort on the part of Toby Kruse and staff, the track surface was kept under control and about one hour and 45 minutes later, the track won out over Mother Nature. Racing resumed about 9:55 p.m. with a determined Kruse not about to lose yet another night of racing.
The Dwarf/Mod Lite feature saw last week's winner, Joel Huggins repeat this week. Several yellow flags would stop the racing action during the feature. Battling up front was Huggins, Randy Bryan, Tim Hennigar and Mike Morrill. In the end, it would be Huggins taking home the win for the second week in a row, Tim Hennigar took the runner-up spot, Randy Bryan was third, fourth went to Mike Morrill and rounding out the top five was Jimmy May.
The IMCA Northern SportMod feature ended with a new face in the winner's circle. Jumping to the lead early, was Kyle Brown as he ran the high side, with Joel Rust and Jake Strayer in tow. Yellow flags would fly several times during the main event sending last week's winner Scott Davis to tag the field as he was caught up in one of the incidents on the track. Young Newton driver, Jake Strayer got around Brown to take over the lead. Then, coming from far back in the field to take over second and third, would be point leader Kevin Sather and the 20 car of Luke Wanninger as they also got around Brown. Fighting hard for positions was Scott Davis as he made an impressive run to get into fourth spot. At the checkers, it was Strayer with his first ever win, Sather in second, Wanninger (back after several week's absence) in third, Scott Davis took fourth, and Kyle Brown came home in fifth. It was an excited 14 year old Jake Strayer in Victory Lane as he was interviewed after the race by announcer Denny Grabenbauer. Congratulations go out to Strayer for that first win. It's always nice to be witness to a first ever win for a driver and we are sure there will be more to come for this talented youngster.
The track was very fast when the IMCA stock cars took to the track for their feature race. At five laps down, a front stretch incident stopped the action when close racing caused a melee. This resulted in several cars having their racing come to an end for the night as the 17AJ of Joe Luethje appeared the worst. He was towed off with a lot of front end damage after t-boning the Flying Farmer, Rick Brown in the right side door. Clay Deppe led until lap eight, when the Dilly Bar Special 3W of Jeff Wollam took the lead. Battling behind him would be Deppe, Michael Jaennette, and Dustin Smith. As the checkers flew, Jeff Wollam would take his first win of the year, as he was chased across the line by Jeannette, Smith, Deppe and Tracy Gienger; finishing in that order.
The IMCA A modifieds were running for $500 to win tonight as Harris Auto Racing put a little extra into the pot. Those drivers did not disappoint as they put on an exciting race for the fans!
Kyle Krampe put his K1 out in front for the early circuits of the race with Jacob Murray taking over the number one spot later. Meanwhile, making his way in an amazing fashion, was the white 19G car of Richie Gustin. He would absolutely rocket off of turn two as he made his way toward the front from starting eighth. Soon it would be brother Jimmy Gustin getting into the second position and the two would then do battle. In the end, Richie Gustin would keep that top spot and take the win, with Jimmy Gustin being the runner-up. Also running a great race was third place finisher, Scott Hogan, Jacob Murray was fourth, and Jay Schmidt had a nice run to finish fifth. Thanks to all of the drivers for putting on one heck of a show for us.
The final feature of the night was the IMCA hobby stockers. It took several tries before the feature got underway, as track incidents caused the yellow to fly repeatedly. When the checkers finally did fly, it was last week's winner Todd Reitzler back in Victory Lane again. Devin Smith would finish in second, putting him in the point lead as previous leader Terry Shaffar would retire early on. Third went to Eric Knutson, fourth to Dustin Elliott and fifth to Gary Pfantz.
Even with a lengthy rain delay, the show was done right at midnight. Promoter Toby Kruse was happy with the track being able to "fool Mother Nature" this time. Racing action continues next week at the Marshalltown Speedway as it will be "Faster Pastor" night and the second annual "Gambler" race for the modifieds. Make plans to attend.
Happy racing!

Packed house at Osky to watch Aikey take Deery Brothers win
This past Wednesday night, saw a packed house as the IMCA Deery Brothers late models came to the Southern Iowa Speedway in addition to the regular USRA classes. The Southern Iowa Fair was also running, which no doubt added to the good crowd in attendance. There would be repeat winners and an old familiar name visiting Victory Lane for the first time this year.
The first feature was the USRA stock cars. Eleven cars were on hand and the starting line up saw Carl Yaw, Jr. on the pole with Nathan Wood to his outside. Wood jumped to the lead early with the 20Dub car of Shane Weller making his move quickly to try and reel him in. It didn't take long until Weller got the job done, and he would set sail out front and take home an easy win. Nathan Wood had to settle for second on this evening, Brian Mitrisin took third, Zack VanderBeek was fourth, and rounding out the top five was Mike VanGenderen. VanGenderen, "The Flying Dutchman" would become a proud poppa just a few hours later and welcome his second son.
There was a full field of 24 B Mods in attendance with 22 of them starting the A Main. An old familiar name of Brian Edel in the #9 car would soon show his muscle as he powered his way into the lead early and he would never look back. He was in fine form as he kept the car out front and took home his first win in 2009. Mike Shelton would try to catch him, but to no avail and he would come home in second place. Third was Tyler Groendyk, fourth went to Andrew Schroeder and visiting Brett Moffitt in the 13 car, was fifth.
In the USRA hobby stock feature, national point leader, Nathan Wood took home the win with former national champion, Kris Walker taking second. Third was Bobby Greene...a driver who does double duty as he also drives in the B mod class, as does fourth place finisher, Jason McDaniel. Fifth went to a fan favorite, Donavan Nunnikhoven in the 2N.
The early leader of the modified feature was the 40 of Scott Dickey. It was no surprise to see the 17P of Brad Pinkerton making his moves back in the pack as he powered around the top side.
He would reel in Dickey and pass for the lead and another familiar car, the 33Z of Zack VanderBeek also made the pass on Dickey to take over the second spot. At twelve laps down, Dickey would have his motor let go in a huge cloud of smoke, bringing out the yellow flag. The remaining three laps would see Pinkerton and VanderBeek maintain their one-two spots as they took the checkered flag. Third went to Colt Mather, fourth to Josh Truman and fifth was Ron VerBeek.
The visiting IMCA Deery Brother Late Model 35 lap feature had all 20 of the cars participating, start the A Main. Jeff Aikey would draw the pole starting position. He would lead the whole race as Keokuk, Iowa driver Tommy Elston would try to catch him. It was to no avail however, as Aikey added yet another win to his list of many. Elston took the runner-up spot and a great running of late Jason Frankel advanced nicely through the field from starting 10th, to come home in third. Boone McLaughlin was fourth, and fifth went to Jay Johnson.
Racing continues at the Southern Iowa Speedway next Wednesday night as it will be Kid's Night featuring a candy and nickle toss. It's also another "Licensed to Thrill" night as those showing a driver's license or I.D. from Ottumwa, will be admitted free.

Logue "wows" them at Boone one more time.
It was a pleasant night for racing at the Boone Speedway this past Saturday evening, though it was a bit more like football weather, than mid-July racing weather. There was a first time winner this season at the speedway, an exciting modified feature that saw the fans on their feet and the kids enjoyed rides with the hobby stockers.
The Dwarf/Mod Lite's took to the track for their feature first after the usual farming session.
Joel Huggins sat on the pole along side Duane Coffman for the start of the race. I'm sure Huggins was hungry for another win as he had won the previous night at the Marshalltown Speedway.
Tonight however, it was the familiar orange #5 of Troy Hudson making his way to the point position very early in the race and from there on, he never looked back. He would go home for the win for the second week in a row and Huggins would have to settle for runner-up. Third across the line was Dusty Masolini, fourth was Josh May, and rounding out the top five was Ed Zehm
Twenty-six of the twenty-nine IMCA Northern SportMods started their feature. Tonight, there was no B Main. Whitney Huntley would lead the race early then slipped back to third as Brian Miller and Geoff Olson both got by her. With nine laps down, Huntley would spin, bringing out a yellow flag. The remaining nine laps saw Miller keep his number one position and take the checkers--his first of the year at the Boone Speedway. Coming from starting twelfth to take the runner-up spot was local driver Scott Davis, and with a fine run for third, was Geoff Olson. Fourth went to Matthew Meinecke and fifth to Jeremy Embrey, who had make his way back through the pack after being involved in an incident on the track early on.
The modified feature had to be the most exciting race of the night--maybe of the season--and one that would have the fans on their feet at the end. All nineteen of the cars on hand for the night would start the feature with John Logue on the tail end. He had not finished his heat race due to mechanical problems, which relegated him to tag the field. Nate Caruth and J. J. Scott started on the front row and it would be Scott jumping to the point with Caruth in pursuit for seventeen of the twenty laps. Meanwhile, it was Boone's John Logue who was coming through the pack and picking off cars at a regular clip. When a yellow flew with just three laps to go, Logue would be in the fourth spot right behind Scott Baker as J. J. Scott still led and Caruth was in second. Logue already had the crowd excited and no doubt, many knew that he was going to be giving it his best shot at taking the win during those last few circuits to come. The fans got their money's worth tonight, as Logue "did his thing" one more time, and made his way around the three cars to take the double checkers. It was Caruth taking second place, J. J. Scott settling for third, Scott Baker in fourth, and veteran driver from Jamaica, Iowa, Denny Pittman in fifth. As a driver, you've got to love or hate those yellow flags, and I'm sure tonight was one that John Logue loved to see flying.
The Class too Tough to Tame, the IMCA Stock Cars, had a full field of twenty-four cars signed in. Only one car, the #7 of Dustin Graham, would not make the starting call. Wayne Gifford made his way from starting sixth, to lead the race with only four laps down. With nine laps down, Gifford still led the race, but the 35 of Donavon Smith was up to second from his ninth starting spot. After a few more laps, Smith would get slower and fall back several spots, as Robert Stofer took over second position with Chris Webb in third and Trent Murphy in fourth. That would be the way they would finish at the line. Veteran driver Larry Portis from Nora Springs took fifth in his first appearance at the track this year. There was a claim in the class as the 14J of Michael Johnston claimed the 25 of Trent Murphy and they would swap motors.
The final feature was the IMCA hobby stocks. They would run one feature as they had the field cut to twenty-four through a B Main. Dylan Book took the consy win. The 83S of Scott Lograsso got to the front from starting eighth and he would keep that spot to take home the win. Coming from eleventh to take second, was Devin Smith, third went to Jason Purvis, fourth to Matt Drottz, and fifth to Pat Mather. The cars would still be running three wide at the end of the night which is always fun for the fans to see.
Next week at the Boone Speedway will be a money toss for the kids. Also new for drivers and fans, is a text alert which you can sign up for on your cell phone. It will let you know of any pertinent information like rain outs, etc. Check out www.raceboone for the full information.
Still lots of racing to be had in the state of Iowa. Get out and attend one in your area. Happy racing!

A cold night in July, but hot racing at Marshalltown
This past Friday night found unseasonably chilly temperatures and yet again, overcast skies at the Marshalltown Speedway. This time the skies did not produce any "liquid sunshine" and racing went on as scheduled. Coats and blankets were needed for the unusual mid-July temperatures however! It was Aaron's night at the track along with the Central Iowa Fair activities on the grounds. The night's action would see repeat winners in victory lane and one first timer.
The first feature to hit the highbanks of Marshalltown Speedway was the Dwarf/Mod Lite cars. Joel Huggins leaped to the point position from his outside front row starting spot. Johnny Mordock, the Creston, Iowa driver who makes his way up to race at the track each week, made his way to second spot and tried to chase down the X50 of Huggins. Coming from well back in the pack was Tim Hennigar and Mike Morrill, but laps ran out and at the checkers it would be Joel Huggins taking the win, Mordock in second, Hennigar for third, Morrill in fourth and rounding out the top five was James May. This was Huggins first ever win at the Marshalltown Speedway. Congratulations go out to him.
The IMCA Northern SportMods had 27 cars on hand for the evening. A B Main won by Neil Follett, whittled the starting A feature to 24. Early leader was Paul Nagle as Joel Rust chased him with Brad Iverson right behind Rust. It would be two very successful drivers; Scott Davis and Kevin Sather, making their way through the field to put themselves in contention up front.
With Nagle still holding the lead, Davis would overtake and pass him coming to the white flag and go home to another win. Nagle was second, Brad Iverson third, Kevin Sather fourth and Geoff Olson took fifth.
The IMCA stock cars had 20 of the 21 cars on hand, start the feature. The 60 of Clay Deppe had finished second in his heat race, but appeared to have the rearend lock up in turn two after he took the checkered flag. He was towed from the track and did not start the feature. Rookie Trevor Titus was the pole sitter along side Rob Schneider. Schneider led the race early but it was the familiar cars of Trent Murphy and Dustin Smith making their way to the front with just a couple of laps completed. Both Murphy and Smith made the pass on Schneider and the "Dilly Bar Special" car of local driver Jeff Wollam threw himself into the mix as he took over third position. Murphy and Smith would do battle the remainder of the race but as the checkers flew, Murphy kept the top spot and went home to the win. Smith was second, Jeff Wollam took third, Rob Schneider was fourth, and Dave Atcher came from well back in the field to take fifth. This was Murphy's second win of the season.
The modified feature found Scott Hogan jumping to the number one position and leading the field as Kyle Krampe chased him. Meanwhile, Adam Larson was making his way through the field and running Hogan down. After a yellow flag at 8 laps down, Larson would make the pass on Hogan, who then was also passed by Jay Schmidt. Larson would cling to the bottom of the track where he told us he was trying to get a bit of moisture, as John Logue decided to try the topside and appeared to be flying. Logue then seemed to have his line go away as he fell back, but the 69X of Jon Snyder found a way to make his way into second position past Schmidt. At the finish line, it was Adam Larson taking his fifth win of the season at the track, Snyder maintained second, Jay Schmidt with a good finish in third, Scott Hogan was fourth and Kyle Krampe was fifth.
The IMCA hobby stocks had more than a full field of cars start the final A Main feature of the night. With just five laps down, Todd Reizler would put his car on the topside of the track and take the number one spot away from the 7B of Eric Stanton. When the final checkered flag flew, Reitzler would take the win, Stanton kept second, the B00K car of Dylan Book came home third, Eric Knutson was fourth, and Brandon Pruitt was fifth.
A final event for the night was the Northern SportMod "Gambler" contest. Seven drivers had chosen to throw $25 each into the pot and winner would take all. After the scheduled 8 lap race, it would be Scott Davis taking home the extra money to add to his winnings from the A feature.
Paul Nagle was second, Kyle Brown third, Scott Olson was fourth and Shawn Hunter was fifth. Joel Bushore and Tom Burke did not finish the race.
Next week will be Hogeland Auto Plaza Kid's Night at the races. Make plans to bring the kids out for the fun and to see "Mater" the tow truck.
Happy racing!

Andrew Schroeder Wins B Modified at the Southern Iowa Speedway
It was a pleasant weather night for racing at the Southern Iowa Speedway this past Wednesday night. There was a special payoff for the winner of the Carter International B Mods with $700 going to the winner. A special promotion by Todd Staley also saw anyone with proper ID from New Sharon, Iowa, getting into the night's entertainment free.
The first feature of the night saw the USRA stock cars taking to the track. Though there were only nine cars present, the racing was intense up front. Mike VanGenderen and Matt Greiner sat on the front row. At the drop of the flag it was Greiner going to the point with The Flying Dutchman, Mike VanGenderen right behind. At six laps down, VanGenderen would retire with mechanical problems. This would open the door for Nathan Wood to put his #52 into contention as he chased Greiner. Those two would swap back and forth for the remainder of the race but at the flag, it would be Greiner taking the checkers first as Woods would limp across the line for second with what appeared to be a flat tire. Third was the 20W or 20"Dub" as it says on his car, of Shane Weller, fourth went to Brian Mitirisin, and rounding out the top five was Kyle Harwood.
The USRA hobby stock feature was up next. "Mighty Mouse" Jason McDaniel was back to race in this class for the night and he made his presence known when he took the lead early. With seven laps down, the 52 of Nathan Wood would be right on his tail and a great battle would ensue between the two for the rest of the event. Both drivers are former USRA Champions in the hobby stock class. Going to Victory Lane tonight was Jason McDaniel, followed by Nathan Wood for second, the 2N of Donavan Nunnikhoven was third, TJ Henderson took fourth and fifth went to Kris Walker.
Eleven of the thirteen USRA A modifieds started their feature. Unable to start was Colt Mather who earlier had exited his heat while leading, and visitor for the night from Corning, Iowa, the R21 of Ryan Schaffer. The front row sitters were the 23B of Adam Bell and the visiting 9J of Austin Jones from Columbia, Missouri. We kept an eye peeled in his hauler area, as we were told that he sometimes has a friend tag along ---Carl Edwards! We could not spy him on this night however. Bell took off and into the lead early, as cars tried to reel him in. One of those cars was Scott Dickey who was able to catch and pass him for the lead. With just four laps remaining, Dickey would see his chance for a win disappear, as he would exit with mechanical problems. This put the familiar 17P of Brad Pinkerton in the first position and he would go home for the win. Following him across the line was "Hollywood" Brandon Banks, third went to "The Z Man" Zack VanderBeek, fourth to Adam Bell, and fifth to Josh Truman.
The main event of the night was the B Mod class as they were running for $700 to win. They took to the track for the finale of the night with twenty-two of the twenty-three cars on hand. Unable to start was former B Mod champion at the track, Brian Edel, who was in what we believe was his former car. Unfortunately, his night ended early as he was off the track in his heat. Sitting on the pole was Andrew Schroeder along side young Carter VandenBerg. Those two would chase each other until Cayden Carter would pass his cousin VandenBerg for second. Carter was not able to catch the 02 though, as Andrew Schroeder took home the win and the extra payday. After Carter in second, was Carter VandenBerg in third, fourth to Drew Lawson and in fifth was Geoff Olson. Olson is from Sioux City, Iowa but is an Iowa State student living in the Ames area. We often see him run on a regular basis at other tracks we attend. Nice to see him in Oskaloosa.
The races were done before 9:30...always a nice thing for drivers and fans alike on a weeknight. Next Wednesday night will be the IMCA Deery Brothers late model show as well as the regular classes. It will also be the Southern Iowa Fair, so keep in mind, that parking may be an issue.
Announcer Tony Paris told the crowd, that coming on August 5 with the USMTS show will be the driver of the Ask.com Nascar Sprint cup car, Bobby Labonte. Speculation is that he may be driving the backup car of Kelly Shryock. A couple of other Nascar personalities may also be on hand. Kenny Wallace was mentioned as well as Kenny Schrader and Ron Hornaday although that had not been confirmed according to Paris. Make plans to attend these upcoming events at the Southern Iowa Speedway.

Davis, Jr. Takes Modified Win at Boone
We were greeted with beautiful weather for a night of racing at the Boone Speedway. The action was fast, furious, and 3 and 4 wide racing. Bill Davis, Jr. would visit Victory Lane for the third time this year in the modified division, Trent Murphy would see the familiar checkers fly for him as well, and Troy Hudson would get back in his groove with a win in the Dwarf/Mod Lite class.
After a fun hoola hoop contest during the usual farming session, the mighty little Dwarf/Mod Lites took to the track for their feature race. The bright neon orange #5 of Troy Hudson sat on the front row and he wasted no time in showing his dominance from previous years. He would lead the entire race, coming home to the checkered flag first. Trying to reel him in for most of the race, was Andy Hennigar who would have to settle for the runner-up position. Third went to Ed Zehm, fourth to Eric Hendrickson and fifth to James May.
It's not too often that we don't see a B Main for the Northern SportMods, but on this evening, there was no consy race and 25 of the 26 cars on hand started the feature. Zach Rawlins, who we have noticed is running quite well as of late, took advantage of his pole-position and led from the get go. Rawlins would stretch his lead until a yellow flag with about three laps to go, bunched up the field, putting the 41 of Jeremy Embrey on his tail. The yellow was no doubt a mixed reaction for those two drivers and when the green flew, Embrey would make the pass on Rawlins who would see his hopes of the win fade. As the checkers flew, Embrey took the win, Rawlins settled for second, third went to Scott Davis who advanced from 12th starting spot, fourth to Mike Munson, and fifth to Matthew Meinecke.
Scott Hogan and Jake Durbin sat on the front row for the IMCA modified A Main. Those two would put on a good battle as Hogan led with Durbin close behind. Rod Scheueremann would throw himself into the mix but it was Bill Davis, Jr. who would make his move to the front past Durbin and then Hogan, to take over the lead spot. Veteran John Logue then put himself in contention toward the front but as he battled with Scheueremann, there was an incident which resulted in Logue pulling into the infield, done for the night. Scheueremann would recover and keep going, but Hogan and Durbin slipped by to advance in position. At the finish line, Bill Davis, Jr. would take his third win at the track this year, second to Vinton's Scott Hogan, third to Jake Durbin, fourth to Scheueremann, and fifth to point leader Cale Sponsler. Early in the race at about lap five, a multi-car tangle in turn three, resulted in the 49T of Tim Steven's being launched up and over the banking. It appeared the car rolled, and the race was red flagged. It was certainly good to see Stevens walking back to the pits, apparently unscathed.
With the success that Trent Murphy has had at the Speedway, it was not a huge surprise to see him visiting Victory Lane again--even having to come from starting 10th. Murphy is the stock car point leader at the track. The race began with front row sitters Josh Brauckman and Jeff Harkrider, both from Carroll, Iowa, lead the race at halfway. With just a couple of laps remaining and a yellow flying, Murphy would see his chance on the restart, make the pass for first and even with the 50 of Robert Stofer trying to overtake him, it would be Murphy with yet another win at the Boone Speedway. Stofer took second, Donavon Smith was third, Jeff Harkrider was fourth, and Bryan Trogdon came on strong to round out the top five.
It was another rare night with the hobby stockers running only one A Main with 34 cars on hand. They would run a B Main to whittle the feature to 24 cars. However, the feature would see only 22 of those cars make the starting call, as Cody Gustoff and Travis Fenton were not able to start. The final feature of the night found Chris Hupp taking home the win, Daniel Hilsabeck was second, Pat Mather in third, 18 year old Michael Murphy in fourth, and Lake City's Devin Smith rounded out the top five. Hilsabeck and Smith came from well back in the starting pack for impressive advancements. Sixth went to the B00K car of Dylan Book who started far in the back, driving what appeared to be a new car.
Next week at the Boone Speedway is scheduled another regular night of racing with hot laps at 6:45 and racing to begin at 7:30. Try to make it for a great night of racing entertainment. Still more specials in the area as well. Our racing season will be over before we know it, so get out and enjoy. Happy racing!

Three First Time Track Winners at Marshalltown
Racers and fans alike were ready for some racing at Marshalltown Speedway this past Friday night. Promoter Toby Kruse has had more than his share of rain outs this season and with the rain that fell early in the day on the Speedway, he said, "I'm looking for a miracle". At the end of the night, he exclaimed that he got that miracle. The track stayed good with the heavy humidity in the air and we saw multi-groove racing all night. A few sprinkles began at one point in the evening, but they quickly dissipated without a stop in racing action.
The Dwarf/Mod Lite feature was first on the track for their main event. Action was halted before the first lap was completed when the 14J of John Gardner put his ride on it's lid right on the front stretch. Thankfully, he was unscathed but it ended his evening. When racing action did get underway again, the neon orange #5 of Troy Hudson would keep his lead the entire race and go home to the win. Brothers Tim Hennigar and Andy Hennigar finished second and third respectively, fourth was Johnny Mordock and fifth was Jeff Stensland.
The IMCA Northern SportMods once again had to trim their starting field with a consy race.
The race early saw cars running four wide in the corners. Putting his #8 car up front was Grinnell's Brad Iverson. He stretched out that lead but yellows would bunch up the field. Pressuring him from behind was young Jake Strayer and point leader Kevin Sather. He was not to be denied though, and Iverson took the checkers first as Strayer made a great effort at the flag to overtake him. Strayer would take second and it appeared that Joel Bushore slipped by Sather at the flag to take third with Sather scored fourth and Zach Rawlins was fifth. This was Brad Iverson's first win at the Marshalltown Speedway. Congratulations go out to him.
The Class too Tough to Tame, the IMCA stock cars was up next. A full field of 24 cars competed during the night although only 23 would start the feature. The 8R of Sean Johnson was unable to make the starting call. Rookie Trevor Titus, who had earlier won his first ever heat race, would sit on the pole position. The early battle was between Clay Deppe, Steve Meyer and Ryan Gustin, but it wasn't long until point leader Dustin Smith was right up in the battle coming from starting 10th. Smith would be leading the race with only five laps down and would put distance between himself and the rest of the pack. Trent Murphy made his way past Meyer, Gustin and Deppe to take the runner up position as Smith took the checkers. Third went to Steve Meyer, fourth to Ryan Gustin , and fifth to Clay Deppe. Dustin Smith has visited Victory Lane many times in his career, and he added to his impressive win list again tonight.
The IMCA modified feature was billed as "The Show-Down in Mo-Town" and it was a great show. Several new faces were in attendance to fill out the 24 car feature. One visitor, Jeff Hunter from Henderson, Colorado had been in the area all week. We visited with him and found out he had made the 700+ mile drive (and a $600+ fuel cost) to come back our way hoping to run the Harris Clash and other weekly shows. Unfortunately, the Harris Clash was rained out, but he did get up to the Buena Vista Speedway in Alta, Iowa on Wednesday night to run their weekly program. He is planning to race at Boone Speedway and Stuart Speedway before heading back home. He told us he made the long trip by himself and will be heading back after Sunday for his oil field job. Always nice to see visiting drivers in our area.
Jacob Murray, "The Hartford Hot-Shoe", sat on the pole of the feature. Scott Hogan got to second early on but his night would come to an end as he was off power shortly after taking that position. Brett Ladehoff had a great run and made a good attempt at catching Murray. However, he would have to settle for second place as Murray took the win by leading flag to flag. Coming on strong to take third was Adam Larson, fourth to Richie Gustin and fifth to Nate Caruth. Both Gustin and Caruth came from starting in the sixth row I believe. This was Jacob Murray's first win at the Marshalltown Speedway. Congrats, Jacob.
The IMCA hobby stock feature concluded the night's events. This too would see a first time winner at Marshalltown. Young Michael Murphy took the win in his yellow 25M ride. Announcer Denny Grabenbauer talked with Murphy in Victory Lane and he said he was finally glad to get a win at Marshalltown. We have seen the eighteen year old win many times at other tracks but a victory had always eluded him at Marshalltown until now. Congratulations to another first timer at Marshalltown. The runner-up spot went to Devin Smith, third to Daniel Hilsabeck, fourth to Terry Shaffar and fifth to Clint Nelson.
The Central Iowa Fair will be on next Friday during the regular weekly racing show at Marshalltown for a little added atmosphere during the Iowa summer. There will also be bike races for the kids. Racing times will remain the same with hot laps at 7 and races at 7:30.
Happy racing!

Lettow and Elston are Harris Clash Winners at Knoxville
Dark skies greeted us once again as we arrived at the Knoxville Raceway for the SportMod and Deery Brothers late model portion of the Harris Clash. After the rain out the previous night for the IMCA modified show, we were keeping our fingers crossed that the show would get in. Mother Nature decided to keep it rain free but with brisks winds and chilly temperatures, she still decided to let herself be known.
Fifty-nine IMCA SportMods were on hand. Six heats and three B features were run to cut the field for the A Main event to a twenty-four car field. Roland, Iowa driver Matt Lettow went to the point early and it was mostly his race the entire 15 laps. Kevin Sather would lead briefly, but Lettow regained the lead; not to be denied, and he took the checkers first. Sather was second, his cousin Austin Kaplan was third, Nate Chodur in fourth and previous winner of the Harris Clash, Brett Moffitt was fifth. Lettow maintained his steady high line thorough out the race for the impressive win. Our congratulations to him.
For the first time in twelve years, the IMCA Deery Brothers late models made an appearance at the famed half-mile track at Knoxville. Forty-seven cars ran five heats and two B Mains. The thirty-five lap feature saw the 0F car of Jason Frankel and the 77 of veteran Jeff Aikey do battle for the lead. Aikey took that lead and was successfully winding through lap traffic with Fankel in tow. Meanwhile, coming from far back in the pack, was Keokuk's Tommy Elston in the 15 car. It appeared Frankel took back the lead with just a couple of laps to go, but a caution flag flew which relegated him back to the second spot. In the ensuing final laps of the race, it was Elston who would make a flying pass for the lead and take home the crown for the night. Elston was followed across the finish line by Aikey, Frankel, Fred Remley, Rob Toland and Nate Beuseling.
We are hopeful that the IMCA modified portion of the Harris Clash will be able to get their show in tonight after a disappointing rain out on Tuesday. Kudos go out to Bob Harris for continuing the Harris Clash. It is a must see on our list of races every year and we always look forward to it. We love seeing all of the modified drivers congregate in one place to put on a show for us fans. Thanks also to announcers Blake Anderson and Tony Bokhoven for providing PA duties to keep us informed. Great job guys.
Check out fellow Positively Racing member's blog, Tapfan, for a much more in depth take of the racing action from last evening. Let's hope we will both have a chance to bring you a blog for tonight's race. Happy racing!

Krall, Temeyer, Dvorak and Pippert Snag Wins at Vinton
We finally got a Sunday night show in this past weekend as we headed east to Vinton. We, as I am sure many of the fans, are always appreciative of the program getting done early. It was no different this time as we were on the road for home right at 9 p.m.
The IMCA stock car feature saw Dave Sires take advantage of his pole starting spot and would lead early. However, you can almost always count on Justin Temeyer to make a good showing and that he did. He overtook the leaders of Sires, then Norm Chesmore as he went home to take the checkers first. Following him was "The Chelsea Charger", Damon Murty, for second, Curtis Roster in third, Paul Shepherd took fourth, and fifth was Scooter Dulin.
Our visiting IMCA modified racer friend from Las Vegas, Dan Fitzgerald, was in attendance and was anticipating the modified feature on "the little bullring" track. He was also glad to finally see the "home of the IMCA modified". Seeing our black dirt tracks is a real change from the type of track he is use to in the Western Region area...to say nothing of seeing a cornfield off the backstretch!
The feature saw pole sitter Jerry Dedrick and the 17 of Brian Krall put on a battle for a while.
At the finish line, it would be Brian Krall taking the victory, followed by Jesup, Iowa driver Ronn Luritzen, and finishing third through fifth respectively were Scott Hogan, Jerry Luloff and Jon Thimmesch..all from far back in the starting field.
The popular IMCA Northern SportMod class would have to have their A Main trimmed by running two B Mains. This class has really grown and we note that more often than not, consy races will have to be run at any track we attend. Danny Dvorak had his eye on the prize tonight, as he put his #3R car to the lead and went on to Victory Lane. Kurt Hogan took second, Joel Rust came from far back in the starting field to take third, Jim Buhlman was fourth and rounding out the top five was Drew Fish.
Scott Pippert took the IMCA hobby stock A main win as he was followed across the line by Brad Forbes, Doug Laughridge, Joe Sprague and Jeremiah Wilson for the top five. Earlier in the evening, the Sport Compact feature was won by the 38DD of Gary Peiffer.
Promoter Mick Trier puts on a timely run show and we saw good racing, and we were on the road to home early. Those all make for appreciative fans and drivers as well.
If Mother Nature allows, try and get out to a track for some good racing action. Happy racing!

Mother Nature Doesn't Halt the 4th of July Racing and Activities at Boone
After a disappointing rain out at the Marshalltown Speedway the previous night, we held our breath as rain just wouldn't clear out in the area on Saturday. It was very overcast as we waited for the grandstand to open, and then here came the sprinkles once again. Fortunately with the good drainage system that the Boone Speedway has, Mother Nature was foiled and racing went on as planned along with a fun rollover contest and a break during features for the city's fireworks display which was set off right there at the speedway. We had brought along friends from Las Vegas, so they were also glad that the evening's racing was held in full. Dan Fitzgerald is an IMCA modified racer who has raced three times at the Boone Supernationals. He and crew chief, Blake, recognized the efficiency in which the show was run.
With only IMCA features on the program for the night, the Northern SportMods took to the track for the first feature of the night. Joel Bushore didn't waste time in getting his #87 to the front of the pack from starting ninth, as he led early on and maintained that top position all the way to the checkered flag. Following him across the line for second, was Paul Nagle, Geoff Olson for third, Tim Love in his "Love Machine" in fourth, and fifth went to third generation driver, Jeremy Embrey. Our friend Dan from Vegas was happy to see a #87 win as he runs as #87N.
The IMCA modified feature saw twenty-two of the twenty-three cars on hand, make the call. With polesitter Mike Louis opting to start at the rear, it would find J. J. Scott moving to the number one spot to sit along side Tim Stevens. That would also move the 14R of Rod Scheuermann to the second row inside, beside Jake Durbin. Announcer Bill Hagland indicated that Scheuermann was in a 2010 Protype Harris car. He put that car to the lead position immediately and never looked back, though Todd Shute and Adam Larson would put some pressure on. Schueremann took the win, followed by Adam Larson, Todd Shute, Jake Durbin and Mike Molle.
After a break for the firework's display, the stock car main event was up next. The leader early was Jeff Harkrider with the #556 of Terry Cornelison in tow. Cornelison would get around Harkrider and fighting it out for third position were Donavon Smith, coming from 10th spot, Wayne Gifford and Chris Webb. Smith came on strong and took the top position and went home to the win. Second went to Gifford, third to Cornelison, fourth to Webb and rounding out the top five was Jeff Harkrider.
Two hobby stock features ended the night's program. The first feature went to the 19A of Alan VanGorp with Justin Hopkins taking second, the B00K car of Dylan Book was third, Jason Purvis fourth, and fifth was Devin Smith. Hopkins would be claimed by the #1 of Blake Miller and he sold. In the second feature, we saw a good battle back and forth for the lead between the 18L of Kenny Loftus and the 11 of Beau Kaplan. It would be Kaplan at the flag to take the win with Loftus having to settle for second. Coming through the field nicely to take third was Michael Murphy, fourth went to Matt McDonald and fifth to Cody Gustoff.

Blessington Takes Marshalltown Stock Car Shoot Out
Thursday night at Marshalltown was a near perfect evening weather wise for the final night of the three-track IMCA stock car shoot out. Fifty-three of the "Class too Tough to Tame" were on hand to give the fans their money's worth. Also on the program were IMCA hobby stocks with twenty-eight cars and the IMCA SportMods with eighteen in attendance. Promoter Toby Kruse announced that drivers from six states came to try their luck on the high banks at Marshalltown.
The hobby stocks took to the track for the first feature of the evening. Visiting driver of the car #17, Kenny Hansen, who I believe is from Exira, Iowa, led the race early from his front row starting position. He continued on with a comfortable lead but Andy Boeckman made his way into the runner-up spot and would try to reel him in. Making for an interesting race up front, Todd Reitzler would be in contention along with Josh Irvine for a top three spot. At the finish line, Kenny Hansen would take the feature win, Grinnell's Todd Reitzler took second, Andy Boeckman was third, Josh Irvine fourth, and Scott Lagrosso rounded out the top five. Coming home sixth, was Lake City's Devin Smith who had to recover from an earlier incident on the track, that relegated him to tag the field.
The SportMods found young Janae Gustin on the pole along side Kyle Brown. Gustin had earlier seen her first checkered flag when she won her heat race with an impressive run. Brown led the race until point leader Kevin Sather passed him. Slipping by Brown then would be the 05 of Paul Nagle, and Zach Rawlins. An incident would then put Nagle out of the running. At the checkers, it was Kevin Sather taking the win, Zach Rawlins in second, Kyle Brown for third, Brad Iverson fourth and Randy Roberts in fifth.
The grand finale of the evening, was the IMCA stock car shoot out. The field of twenty-four cars had to be pared down through three B Mains. It was nice to have this class get some added recognition through the three-night/three-track series. Wisconsin's Jeremy Christians and Marengo, Iowa's Paul Shepard would start on the front row for the 30-lap feature. Jeff Joldersma soon made his way to the lead position from starting fourth. In the meantime, our eyes were on 23rd starter Brian Blessington, who was really on the move. By the halfway mark, Joldersma was still holding the lead, but Blessington had made his way to the runner-up position with Jeremy Christians holding down third. Blessington would make the pass on Joldersma to take the top spot and he would retain that position to the checkers. Joldersma held second, Damon Murty took third, Keith Knop was fourth and Mike Jergans took fifth. Local Marshallown driver, Jeff Wollam came home in sixth. The series champion was Jeff Joldersma as he had the three best finishes in the three-night shows. We spoke with Brian Blessington after the race and he indicated due to a busy schedule, he probably shouldn't have been racing all three nights, but was very glad he had made the tow to Marshalltown. Marshalltown has been good to him, as he was the shoot out winner last year as well.
Busy racing time now in the state of Iowa. Get out and attend a race somewhere.
Happy racing!

Irvine and Neal Take Wins at Indee
It was a great night of racing at the Independence Motor Speedway last night and was the popular choice for 4 out of 5 of the Positively Racing members. I don't think any of us were disappointed as we saw great racing in the IMCA stock cars and the Deery Brothers late models. It was also nice to see that the track has rebounded with a wonderful new grandstand after their old one was taken down by a tornado last year. When we first arrived, the stands reminded us both so much of the facility at Denison, Iowa, which sadly, is no longer running. There appears to be plans to add VIP seating to the very top of the stands, which will make for a top-notch venue.
We counted fifty-one IMCA stock cars on hand to run the second of the three night series of the Stock Car Shoot Out. The first race was held the previous night at the Buena Vista Raceway in Alta, Iowa and saw David Smith take the win. Smith would not be in attendance at Independence. This series brings back fond memories of the old IMCA stock car series run in the 90's and early 2000's.
The 30-lap IMCA stock car feature had a great field of cars. We always enjoy watching "The Class too Tough to Tame". They have always been one of our favorite classes to watch. We both grew up watching "stock" cars and that may be one of the reason they are a favorite. Jarod Weepie from nearby Dunkerton, would take advantage of his pole position and lead the race early on. Soon it would be Oelwein's Brian Irvine putting his bright orange car up front with Mike Nichols, and Jeff Joldersma all three waging a great battle for that top position. At the finish line, Brian Irvine would maintain that top spot to take home the win. Jeff Joldersma from western Iowa would come home second, Justin Temeyer made his way into third spot, Jesse Colwell from Wisconsin took fourth, and Mike Nichols came home fifth. Two claims would be made as the 85 of Dustin Smith (who had been claimed the previous night in Alta) claimed the 67 car of Jesse Colwell, and the O1U of Chris Ullrich would claim the 26 of Irvine. The feature was run with only one yellow flag that flew at 26 laps down. As announcer and fellow Positively Racing member, Ryan Clark pointed out, the entire feature was run in just over 12 minutes.
The Deery Brothers 50 lap feature saw Rob Toland leap to the lead but it was the 28c car of Terry Neal who impressively made his way in to the runner-up spot from starting 9th, in just 9 or 10 laps. From there on, those would be the two cars to watch as they battled back and forth. Neal would make the pass on Toland but Toland would remain on his tail. Also making a very impressive move toward the leaders, was Jason Frankel in his 0F car. He started well back in the field in about 20th position and made amazing progress. There was only one caution flag to slow the action during the main. At the finish it was Terry Neal taking the checkers first, Toland would have to settle for second, Jason Frankel would come home with a great run to take third,
fourth went to Ray Guss, Jr., and rounding out the top five was Jeff Aikey.
We certainly enjoyed a great night of racing at Independence as I would think the rest of the nice size crowd on hand did. About the only "down" for the night was the dirt flying in our eyes for a while during the late model feature, making it hard to watch all of the action. We expect that though, at a dirt track.
There is lots of racing action coming up around our area, so try and get out to one of the tracks. Happy racing!
