Murray, Murphy and Stanton take back to back wins at Marshalltown

After a week off due to wet conditions last Friday, the Marshalltown Speedway sprang back into action this Friday evening.  Three drivers would take home back to back wins.  Jake Murray repeated his win in the IMCA Modified division, Trent Murphy did the same in the IMCA Stock Car class, and Eric Stanton also made it two in a row by winning the IMCA Hobby Stock feature.  Sam Wieben dominated in the IMCA Northern SportMod A main, and Josh May got back to his winning way by taking the victory in the Mod Lite class.

Jake Murray wasted little time in getting to the front of the field in the 25-lap IMCA Modified feature, snatching the lead from Jon Snyder at lap three.  He never relinquished that lead from there on to the checkers and the win.  He had to outrun some heavy competition however.  Eleventh place starter, Tom Berry, from Medford, Oregon hustled through the field to grab the runner up spot.  He had to fend off third place finisher, Joel Rust in the closing laps.  Fourth went to thirteenth place starter, Tim Ward, Chandler, Arizona, and Jimmy Gustin rounded out the top five. Murray repeated his win from May 6th.

The Class too Tough to Tame, the IMCA Stock Cars found Trent Murphy also with a repeat win at the end of the 20-lap event.  Murphy gained the lead with a handful of laps remaining, and then took the win by a comfortable margin over second place finisher, Donavon Smith.  Jay Schmidt started twelfth, and came away with third place, Michael Murphy, brother to the winner, was fourth and Brandon Pruitt, Dexter, Iowa racer, was fifth.

It took a while for the IMCA Northern SportMods to find their rhythm in their 20-lap feature.  However, when Sam Wieben got the lead at lap two, he didn't let the subsequent cautions bother him, holding the lead the rest of the race to the flying checkers.  Randy Roberts chased Wieben most of the race, and finished second.  Jared VanDeest started twelfth and finished third, fourth went to eleventh place starter, Jake McBirnie, and Ethan Braaksma completed the top five.

Eric Stanton had to run down Gary Pfantz and Nathan Ballard on his way to his second consecutive win in the IMCA Hobby Stock division.  Stanton took command at lap eight and held off the rest of the field in the 15-lap feature, securing the win.  Nathan Ballard finished second, over Pfantz, in third.  Fourth was Boone, Iowa's Dustin Graham, and ninth place starter, Benji Irvine was fifth.

The Mod Lite 15-lap feature went to Josh May, despite a smoking machine for much of the race.  May started seventh, avoided a skirmish as the race went green, and was leading when lap one was scored. He never looked back from there, leading all laps to take the win, his first of the season at Marshalltown.  Joe Glick came from eighth to finish as the runner up, third went to tenth place starter, Randy Bryan, fourth was Bryan Zehm and Travis Stensland took fifth.

Green flag racing starts at 7:30 next Friday night at the Marshalltown Speedway, with racing in all five regular divisions, plus the Outlaw Quads.
