Paris, T. Murphy, S. Davis score wins at Boone

It was a free grandstand admission for all Boone zip code residents with a photo ID last night. If it's my understanding, a Boone resident won the same contest last night, so next week will also be free for them. That's some nice free entertainment for two weeks in a row!

The first feature of the evening was the Dwarf/Mod Lites and it would see their event go flag to flag. Sixth place starter Eric Hendrickson jumped to the lead early and would go on to take the win. Behind him in second was Dusty Masolini and in third was the 15 car of Andy Hennigar who had started way back in twelfth position. Following Hennigar for fourth and fifth, would be the father/son duo of Cory Dennis, son and dad Rick Dennis.

A rare night for the SportMods with no B main. However, there were 27 cars starting the feature. It was twelfth position starter Scott Davis who took advantage of avoiding some mishaps on the track, and soon found himself chasing down the leaders. He would take that first place position and go home to the checkers first. Following close behind was Paul Nagle, who had also come from far back in the starting field and if I remember correctly, did lead for a while, to take second. Third was Jeremy Embrey, fourth Joel Bushore, and fifth place finisher was the 5M of Matthew Meinecke.

The program was running along at a good clip as the modifieds took to the track at 9:25 for their feature. Nineteen of the 21 cars signed in would start the A. With the pole sitter car of Stacy Warren not making the call, that would move Cedar Rapids driver Tim Stevens to the point position along side the 4P of Skeeter Paris. Those two would remain one-two for much of the race with Paris in front and stretching his margin at times. Crowd favorite, Todd Shute would be reeling in the top runners, but his night would suddenly end with smoke rolling from his car. In the meantime, Scott Baker would be making headway in the 15X car and would slip by Stevens to come home in second. Rounding out the top five was veteran Denny Pittman in fourth and Mike Molle in fifth.

What an exciting finish to the IMCA stock car main! Twenty cars started the feature with brothers Wayne and Jerry Gifford pacing the field early. However, moving up very fast was 10th place starter Trent Murphy from Jefferson. Jerry Gifford would eventually be given the black flag as his machine continued to produce smoke. Leading would be the 22 car of Wayne Gifford with hard charging Trent Murphy coming on strong! At the finish line, it was a near photo finish between those two, but Trent Murphy would take the win by less than a bumper!
Those IMCA stock cars are always fun to watch. What a great show they put on for us fans.

The final two events of the night would be two features for the IMCA hobby stocks. The first feature saw Matt Wahlert from Waukee lead for a while from his point starting position, but he soon found two fast moving cars hot on his heels--Richard Yaw II and Justin Maschke. As the laps wound down, it would be Richard Yaw II taking the feature win, with Maschke having to settle for second. In third place was Alan VanGorp coming from 11th place, Pat Mather from 10th place to take fourth, and Cody Gustoff finishing fifth.

In the second main for the hobby stocks it would be Scott Lograsso taking what I believe was his first feature win there. We have noted that he has been running very well this year. Making his way from 8th place to second, would be veteran Dean Hartwig in his 74J machine. Rounding out the top five was Daniel Hilsabeck in third, Brandon Pruitt in fourth and Matt McDonald in fifth. Hilsabeck would have his carburetor claimed by local Boone driver, Bobby Smith at the finally of the night.
