Shute, Davis and Trogdon score victories at Boone

It was a full and long night of racing at Boone on Saturday night. Since Marshalltown was once again rained out on Friday, as well as Des Moines, there were a few "travelers" who were wanting to get a race in for their weekend. The pits were filled with 164 racecars.

The Dwarf/Mod-Lites had more than a full field of cars start their feature. It was nice to see a veteran Dwarf driver Cliff Barber back behind the wheel in what appeared to be the 01 machine of David Schmalzreid. The main event yielded 3-wide racing of the little cars, and was very entertaining. In the end, it was the 57 car of Tim Hennigar taking the win, followed on his heels by brother Andy Hennigar, Eric Hendrickson in third, Jeff Stensland in fourth, and Rick Dennis in fifth.

The IMCA SportMods once again had to be weeded down to 24 cars in the starting feature by a B Main. This class just seems to be exploding on the scene. There was 3-wide racing again to provide the crowd a good show. Coming from his 11th place starting postion to take the win, was Boone's own Scott Davis and chasing him was Paul Nagle, Matthew Meinecke, Jared Timmerman and Austin Lucas.

The IMCA modifieds started 27 cars. It was a "catch Tim Stevens" race and that is exactly what Todd Shute did as he made the pass on the last lap. The top five were Todd Shute, Tim Stevens, Denny Pittman, Randy Havlik, and Josh "Happy" Gilman. The 33M car of Mike Molle made a rather spectacular frontstretch slide on his roof move, with a bounce or two thrown in. Thankfully, he was able to exit the car unhurt, to the applause of the grandstand.

The Class to Tough to Tame, the IMCA stock cars, were up next. They also had to run a B Main event to whittle their feature down to the 24 starting field. Damon Murty started on the pole position and it was his race until lap 8 when he came to a halt on the track and his night was over. There was a good race for the top positions when the racing got going again, but in the end it was Bouton's own Bryan Trogdon taking the checkered flag first, followed closely by Trent Murphy, Robert Stofer, Donavon Smith and multi-time track champion, Steve Jackson.

The evening ended with two Hobby Stock features. The 18 year old Jefferson, Iowa driver, Michael Murphy, took the win in the first feature with Chris Hupp in second, Richard Yaw II in third, Daniel Hilsabeck in fourth, and rounding out the top five was Alan VanGorp. The second feature for the Hobby Stocks provided spectators with some 4-wide racing at the end of the night. Pat Mather captured himself another feature win by coming from the 11th starting position, with Devin Smith, Matt Drottz,
Aaron Rudolph and Ray Stock, Jr. following him across the finish line.

Racing action did not conclude until 11:47 p.m., but it was another entertaining night of racing that we once again saw at the Boone Speedway.

Happy racing!
